Enter a World of Classic Carousel Art
I became a carousel enthusiast the day Seaport Village asked me to take some photos at the newly completed building that would house the century-old Looff carousel just arrived in pieces from Salisbury Beach, MA. Upon entering the building my excitement grew as I walked around the tile floor and examined the horses of various sizes laying around with some on stands ready to be worked on. I took many pictures that day and at lunch with Tom Layton, the artist in charge, asked if there was any way I could join the team and help with the restoration, doing the sanding and preparation work while taking pictures of the whole process. Yes! And he could pay me minimum wage! From that work, I created a slide show and the example of the book I hope to publish in the future: https://fototake.smugmug.com/Carousels/Restoration-of-a-Fantasy-The
